Sardar Muhammad Abdul Qayyum Khan is the Supreme Head of All Jammu and Kashmir Muslim
Conference, Member, Constituent Council, World Muslim League. He was elected President of
AJ&K four times – in 1956, 1971, 1985 and 1990. In 1991, he resigned as President and was
elected as Prime Minister. In 1996, he became a Member of the Azad Jammu & Kashmir
Legislative Assembly and Leader of the Opposition. In 2002, Sardar Qayyum was appointed
Chairman of President Musharraf’s National Kashmir Committee.
Sardar Muhammad Abdul Qayyum Khan (Mujahid-e-awwal) was born on 4 April 1924 in Ghaziabad
district, Bagh (Poonch) then Part of Former State of Jammu and Kashmir. He attended various
educational institutions of united India and attained Secondary education from Punjab University,
Lahore, then united India, presently Pakistan.
Sardar Muhammad Abdul Qayyum is the author of dozens of books on various subjects including
Kashmir dispute, politics, good governance, spiritual and religious matters. Perhaps, the only
contemporary politician , who has to his credit vast contribution in politics, economy, defense and
religion, particularly on Freedom Struggle in Urdu, Arabic and English.
